Plan Your TripBlackness Castle

Blackness Castle will reopen on Mon 17 Aug, tickets are now available to pre-book.

In line with Scottish Government Guidance during the Covid-19 pandemic, special arrangements and hygiene measures are in place at Blackness Castle. All visitors must book in advance, in order to manage capacity. While some areas may be closed, we will have additional interpretation available on-site so you don't miss out. This may include QR codes so make sure your mobile can read these when visiting. Face coverings are now mandatory if you are visiting any indoor/enclosed spaces.

Often referred to as 'the ship that never sailed' the mighty fortress of Blackness Castle overlooks the Firth of Forth. Built for the powerful Crichton family in the 15th century as a lordly residence, the castle soon took on many other roles. Throughout history it has served as a royal castle, a garrison fortress, a state prison, an ammunition depot and it is now a unique visitor attraction with many tales to be told.
